One of the key specializations at VEST DISTINCTION is in the structural strengthening of telecommunications towers and tower preventive maintenance (TPM). As highly experienced contractors, our expertise range from telecommunications structural repairs, strengthening, and rehabilitation, to handling the maintenance required for increasing loading capacity. Our scope includes tower preventive maintenance and tower corrective maintenance.

Mobile network operators (MNO), network facilities providers (NFP), tower owners, and telecom-equipment manufacturers need comprehensive tower maintenance services to preserve or extend the functional longevity of the telecommunications towers and require engineering services that help uncover issues that may hinder compliance as well as functionality and subsequently, act swiftly to repair, correct and strengthen. While it is true that wear-and-tear damage from the length of time a structure has been commissioned can be unavoidable, many potential tower problems or structural problems can be avoided through pre-emptive action.

With the capability and industry knowledge to maintain any type of tower, inclusive of monopoles, self-support, guyed, and other steel structures, our experienced maintenance teams can identify structural deficiencies, develop a robust action plan and resolve issues quickly.

Our in-house, fully-equipped fabrication workshop permits our teams to produce detailed fabrication drawings, install steelwork on-site and ensure we can provide our clients with a comprehensive range of structural upgrades. We have teams of experienced site personnel, trained and accredited accordingly to the skill required.

Our team members have the required working at heights (WAH) qualification and undergo refresher climbing courses. Our welding personnel are skilled and qualified in all steel welding processes. Welding services can be carried out on-site or in our fabrication facility, with the same extremely high standards. Our personnel can provide on and off-site welding services to complete the required maintenance and strengthening works.

PREVENTIVE AND CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE

As the telecommunication towers age, maintenance for each site is increasingly important. At VEST DISTINCTION, our teams have conducted inspection and maintenance programs on all sorts of telecommunication structures in Peninsular and East Malaysia. Corrective maintenance is executed after the issue is recognized and the intention is to restore a facility or utility into a state in which it can perform its required function. Whereas, preventive maintenance is executed by established intervals of time or the number of units of use but without previous condition investigation. This is a preemptive form of maintenance set in having routine checks, which is highly recommended for facilities or structures and equipment in the Telecommunications Industry. Tower site maintenance should be scheduled regularly to mitigate the risk of unplanned downtime as well as to meet compliance standards. The type and frequency of maintenance depend on an amalgamation of factors inclusive of but not limited to the type of structure, site location, structure condition, and weather.

SURVEY AND INSPECTION

By regulatory compliance, an inspection of the telecommunication site, also known as a site audit, is done to check the structures, visually and in detail. Our technical team visits the telecom sites and acquires the data of the tower, poles, mast, monopole, etc. Every structural part is subject to inspection, such as checking the foundations, the existing condition of the tower’s beam & pedestal, etc. Once the audit report is written up by our engineers with recommendations appended.

STRENGTHENING

The purpose of strengthening works is to reinforce the structure and prolong the tower’s functional longevity. Tower strengthening is inclusive of, but not limited to repair, repainting, restoring, and replacing any missing items and jointing new tower members, and bracing to the identified weakened spot or area. For example, if the tower condition is not feasible to take the existing loading condition then we recommend strengthening of tower/pole by providing additional bracing for the tower/pole & the tower foundation we recommend beam & pedestal jacketing to make it stable for the existing condition of loading. Our WAH-certified climbers will be deployed to identify structural deficiencies and resolve issues to minimize downtime and ensure regulatory compliance. We can work with our strategic partners to provide a working drawing for the execution of the strengthening activity of the tower/pole and also provide an inspection after the completion of the execution.
